Our 139 HORADAM watercolor colors offer an exceptionally wide range of shades and meet the highest quality standards for premium watercolors. In addition to tried-and-tested traditional tones, the brand includes innovative colors created with unique pigments such as perylene, quinacridone, and transparent iron oxides. Many of the 92 single-pigment colors allow for particularly vibrant mixes, while 22 granulating colors create fascinating effects (marked with "G" in the color chart).
50 Super-Granulating Watercolors Super-granulating colors have a special feature: the combination of at least two granulating HORADAM pigments intensifies this effect, creating a "super-granulated" look. These colors consist of pigments from different color families, allowing for color shifts alongside granulating effects.
The natural formation of texture varies depending on the substrate and the amount of water used. Rough paper intensifies the granulation effect. The 50 super-granulating colors are divided into 10 thematic series of 5 colors each: Deep Sea, Glacier, Galaxy, Forest, Tundra, Volcano, Floodplain, Desert, Mist, and Shire. All super-granulating HORADAM watercolors have high lightfastness (4 and 5 stars).
4-Fold Liquid Pouring in Pans Schmincke's time-consuming liquid filling process for HORADAM Aquarell half and full pans achieves an unparalleled level of quality. The watercolor is poured into the pans in liquid form four times, with a drying time of several weeks between each pour. This results in an extremely concentrated watercolor with maximum yield.
Selected Gum Arabic One of the core ingredients of our artist-quality watercolors is Kordofan gum arabic, a classic watercolor binder sourced from the arid regions south of the Sahara. Due to natural variations, we test all available batches with every purchase and select the best quality each year. This provides subtle but noticeable quality advantages. The careful purification and individual use of all other components guarantee a harmonious range that is easily picked up with a brush.
